How He Proposed

It was May 30, 1998 when he asked. I had been back in New Jersey visiting with my family for two weeks and missed Chris very much. I had hoped he could pick me up from the airport, but he had to work. I was not a happy camper. When I arrived home, to my absolutely empty apartment (literally NO furniture on the first floor) I was greeted with a dozen red roses, a very sweet card and a bottle of wine. I figured it was him saying he was sorry for not being able to pick me up at the airport, but when he got home from work I found out it was more than that. He greeted me with a hug and a kiss! I went upstairs to order us dinner (conveniently there were no telephones downstairs at the time) and when I came back down he had music playing, candles lit and glasses of wine poured! We began dancing. In the middle of Celine Dion's song from Titanic he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Immediately I said, "yes" and I began to cry. I know that that is just the beginning of the special moments Chris and I will share in the many years to come, but it will always have a very special place in my heart.
